Kennedy is King

Kennedy is the most popular boy in his prestige boarding school, known by everyone as The King.

Every detail of his life is under a microscope and sometimes Kennedy wishes it simply not to be.

After a dramatic break-up from the self-proclaimed Princess, and face of the choir, Devon, Kennedy finds himself in a place he’s never been before – the football cage.

Cue a whirlwind romance with footballer Stephen, the trans boy who moved schools because he’d committed a felony? Right, or was it because he got kicked out? Or are these all simply just rumours.

Kennedy soon learns that being himself is much more important than being the King, and Stephen is the boy he wants to be with. If that means losing his crown, well, so be it.

Praise for Kennedy is King

For a young adult book this was VERY steamy (they're 18, it's okay, so is that actually new adult?? I get so confused), regardless, I loved it. Also how many gay men were in this; barely anyone was straight! *chefs kiss*

Review duckfacekim09

A flirty, hilarious and emotional fuelled story that shows the importance of living your truth. I loved that Kennedy, Cassidy and Stephen had supportive and snarky found families. The twin's brother and his family were just adorable too. The relationship between Kennedy and Stephen had an interesting dynamic. They both developed individually from being together but also grew as a couple. I felt that the mentions around both suicide and HIV were dealt with well. Overall a fun story that still captured the serious moments perfectly.

James brilliantly captures high school hierarchy, teen angst, promiscuity and coming of age. His stories provide an important, essential voice for LGBTQAI+ community.
